SAILING AND MOTOR YACHT

GOALS

STUDY THE THEORETICAL AND PRACTICAL KNOWLEDGE TO TAKE THE SAILING AND MOTOR YACHT HELMSMAN EXAM IN THE PREFECTURE.
DESCRIPTION AND DURATION:

The course consists of 10 practical classes lasting two and a half hours on board the sailboat. Schedule to be coordinated according to availability. One or two classes are given per week, in groups of up to 4 people, so the total duration of the course is 3 months.
The theoretical classes are held online and/or in person. On the one hand, there are a total of 15 recorded classes that the student can watch at their convenience. On the other hand, there are 5 face-to-face meetings of 2 hours each. The content is then reviewed in practice, but it is essential to study and keep the theory up to date. In addition, there are books available in PDF format by renowned Argentine authors.

CONTENTS

Parts of a sailboat and what they are used for.

Essential knots: Lead knot, Clover hitch, Plain knot, Figure eight, Cleat, Daisy, etc.

Setting sails: Main, jib, storm jib, genoa.

Starting and operating an outboard motor.

Sailboat maneuvers: leaving and reaching the mooring safely. Raising/lowering sails. Sailing
will with the force of the wind.

To anchor (drop anchor)

How to sail in strong winds.

Rescue maneuver: person overboard (essential for the exam) IMPORTANT: It is a requirement
have sufficient physical ability to move around the boat, perform maneuvers, climb
and get off the sailboat.

EXAMEN TIMONEL
BARILOCHE REGATTA CLUB
The exam is administered by the Argentine Naval Prefecture and consists of a theoretical part and a practical part. The theoretical exam is taken at the Prefecture headquarters (Elordi almost Mitre) and consists of 65 multiple choice questions. The practical exam is taken on the course sailboat and consists of an evaluation of: knots, sailing maneuvers, motor and rescuing a person from the water (in reality, a circular lifebuoy is rescued).
NOTES: EXAMS ARE SUBJECT TO AVAILABILITY OF TABLES BY THE PREFECTURE AND ARE REQUESTED IN ADVANCE. THEY ARE TAKEN IN GROUPS. THE PRACTICAL EXAM IS SUBJECT TO WEATHER CONDITIONS AND DEPENDS ON THE PREFECTURE'S OK.
THE INSTRUCTOR IS RESPONSIBLE FOR REQUESTING AN EXAM TABLE FOR THE GROUP TO TAKE THE EXAM. IN CASE OF ABSENCE OR FAILURE, THE STUDENT MUST RE-TAKE THE EXAM AT THEIR OWN EXPENSE.
EXAM REQUIREMENTS
Be over 18 years old
Original ID and photocopy of both sides
Two front photos with a light blue background. Size 4x4.
CUIL certificate
Medical certificate proving psychophysical and audiovisual aptitude for the exercise of the
activity. It must contain the following text: “Mr./Mrs. has the psychophysical and audiovisual aptitude to practice recreational sailing. Blood type, Rh factor and any type of allergies must also be indicated.”
Pay for the license. Check the updated price at the Prefecture.
IMPORTANT: FOR THE PRACTICAL EXAM YOU MUST BRING A PHOTOCOPY OF THE MEDICAL CERTIFICATE. YOU WILL NEED THE ORIGINAL WHEN YOU COMPLETE THE PROCEDURE.

COST
COURSE VALUE FOR 2024-25 SEASON: $400,000.-
It can be paid in 2 installments with a surcharge of 5٪ before the 10th of each month.
COURSE REQUIREMENTS
Be a member of the Bariloche Regatta Club. The entire course must be paid before taking it. Payment methods: Transfer or cash.
